About

Artist Statement

As an artist, my work reflects my fascination with the transience of life, movement, and flow. My mediums are ceramic, paper, marble, and acrylic, which allows me to explore the intersection of different materials, textures, and forms. Through my artwork, I aim to evoke a sense of calm and quiet strength, emphasizing the beauty and fragility of life. My bas relief paper sculptures allow me to explore the subtle nuances of light and shadow, as well as the delicate interplay between positive and negative space. My ceramic sculptures, with their abstract biomorphic forms, are inspired by nature, gestural movements, and elegant beauty. My paintings evoke a sense of tranquility and serenity. Ultimately, my goal as an artist is to create works that engage the viewer on an emotional level, inviting them to reflect on the beauty of life, and the role that art plays in capturing and preserving our experiences.

Painting

It wasn't until the pandemic that I renewed my passion for painting. Growing up, I painted murals and landscapes but have found my aesthetic with acrylic, high-flow, low-viscosity, and deeply textural compositions. With gusto, I produced over 45 paintings in the span of 1.5 years and sold/commissioned them all, donating proceeds to support communities.

I am currently taking a hiatus from painting to focus on sculpture.

Sculpture

Sculpture is an emerging passion (and obsession) of mine. I love the challenge that comes with multiple dimensions - every perpendicular plane is a painting in itself, and thus an infinite number of them. I focus on bas relief and ceramic sculpture using ancient handbuilding techniques to create nature-inspired artifacts, vessels, and shapes. I love to play with biomorphic forms and waves, mimicing the dynamic compositions found in my paintings.

FAQs

How did you get started? I have been painting, drawing, and creating since young. I love working with my hands and as a child, have constructed origami sculptures, portrait drawings, and paintings. Aesthetics, design, and color have largely shaped my life. I only revisited art recently and started by experimenting, playing, and creating an environment where it's safe to fail. I'm constantly curious and love to study new mediums, tools, techniques, and materials. I experiment with both abstract and figurative, combining both modern and ancient techniques, learning from the masters.

What inspires you? The intersection of multiple disciplines inspires me. The mathematical forms, golden ratio, Fibonacci sequences found in nature, and the intricacies of the world around us at the macro and nanoscale is incredible to me. Beauty also inspires me. It is one of the many aspects that give life meaning. To quote Ralph Waldo Emerson, "beauty is the form under which the intellect prefers to study the world. All privilege is that of beauty, for there are many beauties; as, of general nature, of the human face and form, of manners, of brain, or method, moral beauty, or beauty of the soul." Light also inspires me, and is a key component of creating and appreciating my art. Living in NYC, I love to surround myself with art and take inspiration from architecture, photography, ballet, travel, and music.

How long does a piece typically take you? My end-to-end process ranges from several hours to weeks, depending on the size and complexity of the piece. Ceramic sculptures involve multiple steps over 3-4 weeks, which includes firing and glazing the piece. You can view more about my process on my Instagram here.

Do you accept commissions? At this moment, I am no longer accepting commissions. However, if you have a compelling request, please Contact Me to discuss an exception.
